Aspectos morfológicos e quetotáxicos de larvas de Argas (Persicargas) miniatus (Acari: Argasidae) no Brasil Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Amorim,M.; Carreira,M.C.P.; Serra-Freire,N.M..
Eggs were obtained from female Argas (Persicargas) miniatus parasitizing chickens after natural ovoposition. The larvae from eggs were sacrificed, prepared for and mounted onto slides. Morphological and chaetotaxic studies enabled the following observation: idiosome and gnathosome shape; presence or absence of scutum, eyes and anal setae; number of palpi segments; number of files of teeth on the hypostoma; number of denticles on the apical crow; number of cheliceral digits; number of teeth in each hypostoma file; disposition and shape of opistosoma and podosoma setae in ventral and dorsal view. Based on these morphological features analyzed, it is concluded that the larvae of A. (P.) miniatus present variations in morphology and chaetotaxy that are useful...

Catalogue of the tick collection (Acari, Ixodida) of the Museu de História Natural Capão da Imbuia, Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil Zoologia
Arzua,Márcia; Onofrio,Valeria C.; Barros-Battesti,Darci M..
The tick collection of the Museu de Historia Natural Capão da Imbuia was first sorted in the end of the 80's, and a list of specimens was published in 1992. During the last ten years, the collection has grown substantially and became the depository collection for type-specimens. The collection is the most regional representative depository of ticks from the State of Paraná, and it is one of the four largest Brazilian collections in number of specimens. All material was revised, and the data were computerized and catalogued in cards. To date, the collection includes 504 vials, with 2,073 specimens, belonging to 25 species and six genera of the families Argasidae and Ixodidae. The ticks were collected in regional and state parks and in green areas from 60...

Current status of ticks and tick-host relationship in domestic and wild animals from Pantanal wetlands in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Cançado,Paulo Henrique Duarte; Faccini,João Luiz Horácio; Mourão,Guilherme de Miranda; Piranda,Eliane Mattos; Onofrio,Valéria Castilho; Barros-Battesti,Darci Moraes.
ABSTRACT This is a commented list of tick’s species collected on various wild and domestic animals, including the reports on scientific literature for the studied region. Most of animals were small or medium mammals. Carnivores were the main taxa group examined. Although, the pampas deer ( Ozotocerus bezoarticus) and giant anteater ( Mymercophaga tridactyla) also has a good representation on study. Among domestic animals, dogs, horses and cattle were examined. Summing up, 18 tick species were listed for the region. Sixteen were hard ticks (Ixodidae) and two soft ticks (Argasidae). Amblyomma sculptum was the most common and abundant hard tick. Ornithodoros rostratus (Argasidae) was very abundant, being the more important Argasidae tick on the study region....

Developmental biology of Argas neghmei Kohls & Hoogstraal (Acari: Argasidae) under laboratory conditions Neotropical Entomology
González-Acuña,Daniel; Vargas,Pamela; Ardiles,Karen; Parra,Luis; Guglielmone,Alberto.
In order to describe the developmental biology of the tick Argas neghmei Kohls & Hoogstraal under laboratory conditions, 40 females and 40 males were collected from chicken coops located in Calama (II Region, Chile). They were fed on chickens and maintained under two laboratory conditions: one group at 30 ± 5 ºC and 35 ± 5 % RH and another at 27 ± 5 ºC and 80 ± 5 % RH, both at 12: 12 h L:D photoperiod. The ticks were observed daily to determine larval feeding periods, preoviposition, oviposition, egg incubation as well as the frequency of egg laying, number of eggs laid, and percentage of larval hatching. Females did not lay eggs at 80 ± 5% RH, and data on the biology of this tick was obtained only at 35 ± 5% RH. The life cycle of A. neghmei lasted...
